

Burton Film Festival encourages student to attain proficiency in the technical aspects of film production. This year, there are three different sections: Elementary School (grades K-6), Middle School (grades 7-8), and High School (Grades 9-12). The categories below will be available to each section.
CATEGORIES
Music Video Cover (3 Minutes or less)
In this video, students will create a music video for an existing song. The song must have non-offensive lyrics and must be appropriate to Burton students. If the song is longer than 3 minutes, students must cut the song to fit the critera of this category..
Sports Highlight (3 Minutes or less)
In this video, students will create a video in which they will highlight one or multiple athletes in the school teams. The video must include footage of the players at practices, games and tournaments. In this categories, students may use interviews. Students should highlight positive aspects of the sport.
Education Category (1-5 minutes)
This project requires the entire class to participate. The video that is created as a whole class, can be related to curriculum.
2024 Film Categories
Documentary (5 Minutes or less)
This video tells a true story about people, places, or events, aiming to inform and sometimes inspire. Unlike fictional movies, documentaries present facts and real-life situation, offering a uniques perspective on the world.
Short Film (5 Minutes or less)
Within this category, the video is like a brief but impactful storytelling experience. It can be fiction or non-fiction, telling a concise and compelling story in a limited time frame. Short films showcase creativity, capturing emotions and ideas.
General Advertisement/PSA (1 minute or less)
Commercial: Advertisement for a local business or public service. Student must collaborate with the business owner or public service to fulfill the requirements of the video. This video should promote a product, service or idea. The advertisement should have a strategic message to influence and engage the audience, encouraging them to take action or consider the promoted offering.
PSA (Public Service Announcement): is an advertisement broadcast for the public interest. PSAs raise awareness or educate the audience about social issues, health concerns, or community initiatives. These videos aim to inspire positive action or behavior, delivering a concise and impactful message to the public.
Animation (3 Minutes or less)
This category is an introduction to stop motion. The video is made to give the illusion of movement in a 2 or 3 Dimensional perspective.
Awards
There will be three award divisions during the Burton Student Film Festival. The Primary Awards Division is for students in the K-6 grade levels, the Intermediate Awards Division is for students in middle school and the Secondary Awards Division is for high school students.
